ACT the way you want to FEEL. Most people, including myself, tend to think that our actions follow our feelings. I feel really motivated today so I am going to accomplish all the things! Sometimes happens that way, generally…not quite. I was recently listening to a podcast that had Gretchen Robin, author of the Happiness Project as the guest. She dives deep into the theory that our feelings are actually controlled by our actions. “Although we presume that we act because of the way we feel, in fact, we often feel because of the way we act. More than a century ago, philosopher and psychologist William James described this phenomenon: ‘Action seems to follow feeling, but really action and feeling go together’”
I’m sure you can remember a time probably in the not so distant past when everyone around you was stressed and totally freaking out and you notice you’re starting to feel stressed too? Or you’re really tired but you’re like “ok… I’m awake! Let’s jump around and get this work out done!” And within minutes you forget you’re tired? That’s because we FEEL the way we ACT
Acting strong and worthy of big dreams when we don’t necessarily feel it yet is the tying of the shoe laces. Acting enthusiastic about working out to achieve wellness will eventually lead to actual excitement. You can’t skip the line. Anything worth having will NEVER have a shortcut. It will involve doing the hard things, ACT the way you want to FEEL in the process.
